João Vidinha was born in Portugal, where he began playing the flute at the Fundação Musical dos Amigos das Crianças with Anthony Pringsheim. He continued his studies at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML) with the same teacher and, after private lessons with Katharine Rawdon, went on to study at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA) with Marieke Schneemann, where he completed his Master’s degree in Music in 2010. In 2016, he completed his Master’s degree in Music Education at ESML.

He participated in masterclasses by Emily Beynon, Kersten McCall, Jed Wentz, Wil Offermans, András Adórjan, Vincent Cortvrint, Jaime Martín, Carin Levine, Irmela Bossler, Félix Renggli, and Carlos Bruneel.

During his studies, he became an experienced orchestral performer: Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa, Orquestra de Câmara de Cascais, Orquestra Sinfónica de Cascais, Orquestra Sinfónica Juvenil, RBO Sinfonia, Amsterdam Symphony Orchestra, CvA-Symphony Orchestra, VU-Orkest, LSKO Collegium Musicum, and chamber music with the Zephyros Woodwind Quintet.

He started the international publishing company Scherzo Editions in 2012 and Arpejo Editora in 2019 with teaching materials in Portuguese.

João Vidinha plays a Bernhard Hammig flute and a Powell piccolo. He is one of the first endorsers of LefreQue, using it everyday since 2012.
